Shetland Swimmers Raise over £21,000 for Cancer Research UK

That the Parliament congratulates Shetlanders Anita Georgeson, Wendy Hatrick, Glynis Harcus, Linda Moncrieff, Emma Williamson and Jane Murphy on completing their swimming fundraising challenge, which raised over £21,000 for Cancer Research UK; considers this to be a significant sum in the context of Shetland’s population; understands that the group set itself the challenge to swim at 30 beaches around Shetland during the 30 days of November, travelling the length of Shetland to reach different beaches around the isles; further understands that the fundraising effort was undertaken as all of the women have been affected by cancer in some way and they wanted to raise money for cures; notes that the core group was joined by other swimmers and that a large crowd joined in the final swim at Bain’s Beach in Lerwick; further notes that the fundraiser’s organiser, Anita Georgeson, has often fundraised for charity in recent years and attended the opening of the sixth session of the Scottish Parliament as Shetland’s local hero; congratulates the fundraisers for completing their challenge and raising over three times their initial fundraising target, and wishes them all the best.
