British Coal Staff Superannuation Scheme

That the Parliament welcomes the reported decision by the UK Government to return £1.5 billion of money kept from pensions to over 100,000 former mineworkers involved in the Mineworkers’ Pension Scheme in October 2024; recognises the former mineworkers and their families who have fought for justice for many years; notes that what it considers as a landmark decision will mean a 32% boost to the annual pensions of 112,000 former mineworkers in the Mineworkers’ Pension Scheme; is concerned, however, that these changes reportedly do not apply to the British Coal Staff Superannuation Scheme, despite, it understands, a total of £3.2 billion being taken from the scheme by the UK Government; believes that there must be parity between all mineworkers included in both pension schemes, and further believes that the UK Government must act urgently to return money kept from pensions in the British Coal Staff Superannuation Scheme to ensure that this historical wrong is fully righted.
